Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

The grading crew began placing soil lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches in size on Lots #30 through #32. The lifts were compacted with an 815 sheep-foot roller. The soil visually appeared to have a high moisture content. When ASEC watched a loaded off-road truck roll across the lift, there were signs of severe pumping/deflection present along the slope. The contractor excavated this area to stable ground. The contractor then cut wind rows into the remainder of the lift to allow time for the soil to dry.

The wall crew continued with the installation of retaining wall #2. Soil lifts were placed in approximately 12-inch lifts and compacted with a combination of a sheep-foot roller and a trench roller. Density testing was performed and test results were provided to the contractor.
