Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (NG Grading) for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

The grading crew began placing fill in approx. 12in lifts across lots #30 – #32. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lift to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping present at this time. Density testing was conducted, and test results were provided to the contractor.

The contractors continued installation of retaining wall #2 in an attempt to finish before the rain. Soil was placed in 8-to-12-inch lifts and compacted with a sheep-foot roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor.

The contractor continued removing the soft soils from the pumping areas (deceleration lane) and replacing with GAB. It was recommended to remove approximately 1 foot and replace with GAB. The contractor compacted the GAB with a smooth drum roller.

It began to rain in the early afternoon. The rainfall was heavy enough to potentially damage testing equipment. It was recommended to the contractor to prep the site for rain and shut down due to rainfall. The contractor made the decision to continue the installation of the last 2 baskets in the rain without density testing. ASEC will attempt to density test these areas upon the next available workday.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
