Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Crew resumed work between manholes S3 and S4. During the operation, the crew installed manhole risers to bring the structures to the required elevation. After installation, the trench area between S3 and S4 was backfilled using topsoil and suitable fill dirt. This area of backfill is in a greenspace area (not under pavement/building structures). The material was placed in lifts of approximately 6–8 inches and each lift was compacted using a double drum roller to for compaction.

At manhole S3, it was observed that the backfill material had been placed in thicker lifts than recommended, and the compaction in that area was not adequately achieved. The contractor was notified and recommended that proper lift thickness and compaction procedures be followed around structures.

On the other side, the crew worked at manhole D1, where standing water inside the manhole was drained out to allow further work. After removing the water, the base was leveled and prepared, and a layer of gravel bedding was placed for pipe installation. Following this preparation, the crew installed RCC pipe from manhole D1 extending toward manhole D2.

Additionally, silt savers were installed on some manholes across the site to prevent sediment and debris from entering the stormwater drainage system during ongoing construction activities.
