Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.
DCP testing was performed along the footing for retaining wall #1. In areas that testing failed, it was recommended to remove approximately 2 feet deep x 8feet wide of soil and replace with approximately 1.5 feet of No. 57 stone and 6 inches of GAB. The failed testing area was at the approximate location of station number 6+00 to 7+30. These numbers were provided to the contractor so they could order the rock. There appeared to be a large amount of PWR present in the footing of the wall from station 0+00 to approximately station 6+00. There were multiple auger refusals during the DCP testing. In some areas, there are large slabs of rock present. The footing appears to be stable in this area.
The contractors are excavating wet topsoil from the slope of Lots #19 through 22. A loaded truck was used as a proof-roll to check for stability of the lifts. There were severe signs of pumping and deflection, and with a large amount of rain forecasted, the contractor expressed concerns of washouts. The contractor is removing approximately 2 feet to 4 feet of soil and replacing with a more suitable material. Probe rodding was used to check the ground as the contractor excavated this area.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
