Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.
The pipe crew began installation of storm line A-13 to A-13.1. The contractors stated they will not be placing any backfill until tomorrow to allow time for the soil to aerate to near optimum moisture content.
The grading crew began placing the additional 2 feet of soil across the commercial lot area by the front detention pond. Lifts were placed in approximately 8-to-12-inch layers and compacted using an 815 sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or cracking present.
The grading crew began excavation of the 130 f00t long x 8-foot-wide x 2-foot-deep section of the footing of retaining wall 1. This area was recommended to be replaced with approximately 1.5 feet of No. 57 stone and 6 inches of GAB. *
*After our representative left the site for the day, the contractors called to discuss the undercut of the footing. They said they over excavated the area and ran out of GAB. The contractor requested ASEC to change our recommendation to accommodate for the additional GAB. Our representative explained to the contractor that the recommendation that was made is what was required, and if they have to order additional rock, then they need to place a change order with Pulte. The contractor requested a text message with their new numbers (130ft x 12ft x 2ft) sent to them. This was their own estimation/decision, and was not the recommendation made by ASEC.
The drilling crew was on site, and another ASEC representative was handling the inspection/observation of the drilling.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
