Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

On my way to the site, the grading crew sent me a picture of the wall crew removing the GAB and No. 57 stone from the footing of wall 1. It appeared that they stockpiled the stone together with soil mixed into the stockpile. This has now contaminated the rock that was recommended for the failed portion of this wall. When asked why they were digging out the rock, they claimed it was to be able to extend the face of the wall by approximately 6 inches (this made no sense to multiple individuals on site). ASEC explained they needed to remove their baskets and replace the contaminated rock with clean rock to achieve the recommended bearing capacity in this area. A test pit was dug (with Tyler grading crew foreman present) to expose the rock to verify if it was contaminated. It appeared to be contaminated and a mixture of No. 57 stone, GAB, and soil.  When told to wait, as ASEC was discussing the situation with Phil (wall crew foreman, not present onsite) and Mr. Scott Wood of Pulte, the wall crew began ripping out their baskets. ASEC informed them to stop, as directed by Mr. Wood.

Mr. Wood, Phil, and ASEC plan to meet tomorrow morning to evaluate and discuss a plan of action. For now, the wall crew is going to continue placing baskets on another section of the wall. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor.

The pipe crew is continuing installation of storm line. The pipeline appears to be shallow (-2ft or less) to the final grade and is not ready to be tested at this time. Density testing will be performed once final grade is achieved.
