Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day:

UES, CW Matthews, and Lead Edge were present for a proof-roll performed using a loaded tandem dump truck in the A3 extension area.

Observations during the proof-roll indicated that all areas performed acceptably, with the exception of an approximately 10-foot by 25-foot section near Station 43+00, which exhibited pumping.

A recommendation was provided by UES (Zach) to undercut the affected area an additional 6 inches, install geogrid throughout the compromised section, and backfill with a total of 18 inches of Graded Aggregate Base (GAB). The contractor completed the remediation in accordance with this recommendation.

Following the corrective work, an additional proof-roll was performed with the same parties in attendance. The remediated area performed satisfactorily, and all parties agreed the section was acceptable.
