Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractors requested a proof-roll to be performed on the deceleration lane at the entrance of the site, as well as a proof-roll to be performed on the roadway/curbs on the interior of the site. A loaded tandem axled truck was used for the proof-roll. The curb line and roadways on the interior of the site did not show any severe pumping or deflection. There were signs of pumping in the deceleration lane approximately 3 feet from the existing roadway. The existing roadway appeared to be approximately 16 inches thick with no base (see pictures). Probe rod testing was performed, and it was recommended to remove 8 to 12 inches of soil from the pumping areas and replace with GAB. The contractor removed the soil and replaced with GAB in approximately 8-inch lifts and compacted with a walk behind trench roller. ASEC came back to the site later in the day to reroll this area with a loaded truck. The severe pumping was no longer present after remediation.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
