Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the above date our representative was onsite to observe the grading contractor continue demucking existing subgrade soils at the west side toe of the existing dam. Groundwater was present during excavation and the contractor pumped most of the water out prior to placing two loads of No. 57 stone after excavation with filter fabric over stone as recommended. Structural fill was then placed over fabric and drainage stone in which the stone was tied into the northside drainage trench. The contractor also continued placing fill at the toe of the slope embankment starting at the east end using excavated recommended materials from the existing haul road that was drier than the onsite stockpiled materials that the contractor continues to blade for aeration. The writer performed density tests using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. The writer also performed a standard field proctor for in-place fill compacted materials. Compaction results were suitable for the requirement of 95%. It was recommended to seal off in place fill with empty off road dump truck at end of day for an anticipated rain event and to recompact with a sheep-foot roller prior to placing additional fill for surface bonding purposes.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
