Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe the pipe contractor continue installing 8″ sanitary sewer line at the cul-de-sac between manholes #10 and 11. The writer performed density tests using a Troxler nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. The density tests performed at -2 feet after compacting failed compaction requirements and was recommended for additional compaction efforts. After additional compacting efforts compaction results met project requirements. The writer also reobserved in place fill for building Lots #27 and 28 by probing using a 3/8″ diameter rounded end steel rod which indicated in place wet soils with compaction efforts below requirements. The repair began at Lot #27 with recommendations to undercut and replace areas having in place wet soils. The area today was undercut -4 feet to suitable residual soils. The contractor began replacing undercut areas with suitable drier soils and compacting in lifts which was probed and appeared to meet project compaction requirements. The contractor only replaced two feet of the undercut area with rain predicted for the coming week.
