Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractors continued backfilling the bridge abutment. Soil lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches in thickness were placed and compacted with a combination of a sheep-foot roller and a trench roller. Density testing was performed and test results were provided to the contractor. The contractor removed any large stones (greater than 1 foot in diameter) from the fill prior to compaction.
