Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was onsite to continue observing the paving contractor (NWGP) perform subbase preparation and subgrade repair for Naturewalk Parkway west side of sanitary sewer manhole #12. The contractor undercut existing subgrade soils as recommended, removing saturated subgrade soils that displayed severe rutting. The contractor placed 285.05 tons of base stone for the undercut with contract stone included in this total. The contractor also is filling in eroded reels at curb line from a previous rain event. The curb line replacement will require proof-rolling prior to pouring curbing.

The writer observed the grading contractor continue hammering rock at building lots unit 4 phase 2 all day.

The writer observed the grading contractor continue repairing eroded reels for the slopes and placing additional fill for building lots without using the sheep-foot compactor which will require compaction tests to be performed tomorrow.

The pipe contractor (Savannah continued installing casing for the water line at the roundabout.

The curbing contractor J&W was onsite at Seven Hills phase 13 setting up for a curbing pour at the roadway past the gas line crossing. The writer observed subgrade soils by probing using a 3/8″ diameter rounded end steel rod. Most areas observed appeared to be above optimum moisture contents with estimated in-place compaction results ranging from 90% to 92%. The contractor has elected to pour curbing at these current conditions.

The grading contractor also is placing additional fill at the step downs in between lots at phase 13. The contractor was reminded that ASEC will be performing DCP tests to substantiate compaction requirements for certification.

The writer observed the wall contractor (RWS) installing tension rods for dead man wall. The contractor was reminded that large rocks are not allowed within ten feet of the wall.
