Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the above date, our representative was on site to observe the removal of form work for the Pond A anti-seep collars with an average width of five inches. The contractor began backfilling over the 36″ RCP and anti-seep collars after approximately 19 hours. It was recommended to the contractor to only use hand tamp backfilling for the sides of the anti-seep collars to prevent water from entering the bottom of the excavation. The contractor continued backfilling over top of the pipeline and anti-seep collars. The writer reobserved backfill after placement of two feet additional fill over top of the anti-seep collars. Density tests were performed with recommendations made to perform additional compacting efforts to achieve 95%.
The grading contractor Thompson continued placing fill at the roadway between structures B6.2-ST GI,B6-ST JB and B4-ST JB. The writer observed compacting efforts recommending that fill lifts be placed in lifts not exceeding twelve inches.
The writer observed asphalt 19mm SP binder mix placed at roadway on 8/25/26 by performing density checks using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. Results were 136.5, 139.1, 136.5, 139.0, 135.3, 141.6, 143.6, 142.6, 140.6, 144.1, 142.0, 139.4 and 144.2, all pcf. During paving placement there was no additional information provided (specific gravity or theoretical value). Based on an estimated value of 152.0 pcf compaction efforts would range between 90% and 93%. The lower compaction efforts were located near the Plantation Gas lines crossing. These results were reported to the paving contractor.
The writer also observed subgrade conditions for curbing at Unit 4 Phase 2 main section of roadway by probing using a rounded end steel rod. Several areas were observed having loose compacting efforts with recommendations made to recompact existing subgrade soils prior to curbing placement. The writer reobserved subgrade soils after additional compacting efforts were made and approved subgrade soils for curb placement.
The writer also observed the paving contractor NWGP continue subbase preparation at Naturewalk parkway between sanitary sewer manholes #10 and 13.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
