Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative observes the grading contractor Thompson placing fill at Unit 4 phase 3 building lots. There was no additional information available for lot numbers or elevations, however, the approximate depth is 8 feet below finished grade. The writer performed density tests using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. Compaction results were suitable for requirements of 95 % to 98 %.

The writer also observed the paving contractor continue subgrade preparation at Nature Walk Parkway between sanitary sewer manhole #3 and #2. The subgrade was proof-rolled using a loaded tandem dump truck. The subgrade soils appeared stable under traffic except one small, isolated area (12′ x 6′) which was clipped -4″ and replaced with additional base stone. The contractor plans to start placing base stone tomorrow.

The grading contractor Thompson backfilled the electrical conduit holes at the east and west side bridge abutments. Compaction results met project specifications.

The grading contractor also continued fill placement at Seven Hills Unit 4 phase 13 building Lots #22 and 23. Fill soils with some rock fragments were used in filling in borrow pit #2 south of building Lot #24.
