Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by the contractor (Wilbanks) for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The technician observed the contractor place 1 lift approximately 8 inches in thickness over Lots #121 through #125 and #112 through #117. Fill materials tested were found to be much higher than optimum moisture content and was left to aerate in place to reduce in-situ moistures prior to compaction.
Our ASEC representative continued visual observation of the embankment fill activities at the project site. During the inspection, large boulders were observed within the soil material. The contractor was advised to remove these boulders from the fill area. Additionally, during the probe rod observation, certain soft spots were identified. These areas were re-compacted by the contractor prior to conducting compaction testing.
Four drive cylinder tests were performed at the following locations and depths:
-
At Station 22+00, the test was conducted at a depth of 3 feet to the subgrade layer.
-
At Station 20+00, the test was conducted at a depth of 7.5 feet to the subgrade layer.
-
At Station 19+00, the test was conducted at a depth of 5 feet to the subgrade layer.
-
At Station 18+00, the test was conducted at a depth of 6 feet to the subgrade layer.
The equipment utilized for embankment operations included two rollers, two dozers, three trucks, and three excavators.
