Observations/Finding

As requested, an ASEC representative visited the project site from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM to provide quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals.

The drilling work between Manhole 9A and A10 was in progress by the Advance Explosive contractor. Three drilling machines were engaged in drilling the holes. The holes were drilled at approximately 7 ft by 7 ft spacing using a 3.5-inch bit. Depth checks were randomly performed and confirmed with the drill operator’s log sheet. A total of 42 holes were drilled at a depth of 15 ft, 38 holes at a depth of 18 ft, 6 holes at a depth of 23 ft, 3 holes at a depth of 24 ft, 10 holes at a depth of 25 ft, 6 holes at a depth of 26 ft, 6 holes at a depth of 27 ft, and 8 holes at a depth of 30 ft, while the rock hitting range was 0 ft to 9 ft.

The sewer line excavation and backfilling work was in progress between Manhole A5 and A6.

The embankment work with rock-drilled materials was in progress in Lots #7, 8, 9, and 10, at approximate elevations of -5 ft, -8 ft, -9 ft, and -7 ft respectively. Proof-rolling was performed using an available tandem axled dump truck. It was recommended to break down larger rocks into smaller pieces using the 815K roller. In the green area and soil slopes of the lots, the soil contractor used material with amounts of topsoil. It was recommended to the soil contractor to only use suitable material (non-organic) for all types of embankments.
