Observations/Finding

As requested, an ASEC representative visited the project site from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM to provide quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and approved material submittals.

The blasting work between Manhole 9A and A10 was in progress by Advance Explosive contractor. The blasting material was provided by ORICA Company. An ammonium nitrate and water emulsion was used for the blasting. Between 25–125 lbs of blasting material was used in different holes. Detonators with 25 ms and 42 ms wires were used for blasting. The holes were filled with gravel as per the job specifications. All safety measures were followed, and the blast was conducted at around 2:00 PM.

The sewer line backfilling work was in progress between Manhole 5 and A5. Recommendations were provided to avoid using rock diameters larger than 4 inches around the sewer pipe and manhole. The placement of layers should not exceed the allowable thickness specified in the project specifications. Compaction around the manhole was advised to be carried out using a small roller. Safety measures were implemented during excavation and backfilling.
