Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor continued placing soil lifts of approximate 8 to 12 inches in size across Lots #14 through #19. Lifts were compacted via a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or deflection present. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. Due to multiple attempts to compact a lift and still receiving failing tests, ASEC recommended to roll in the lift with a loaded off-road truck. Density testing passed once the lift was rolled in.

The wall crew began addressing the footing. It was ASEC recommendation to undercut approximately 5 feet deep by 8 feet wide and approximately 50 feet in length of the footing along the face of the wall. This area had low bearing capacity and did not achieve the required bearing capacity of the wall. It was recommended to place geogrid in the bottom of the footing, and then to place approximately 2 to 3 feet of No. 57 stone and then cap the 57 stone with approximately 6 to 12 inches of GAB. The GAB was damped with water and compacted with a trench roller. The wall crew then began to place their baskets and install the wall. ASEC performed density testing, and test results were provided to the contractor. Any failing tests were addressed and retested.

The pipe crew is boring under Philadelphia Road to install a sewer line. No testing was requested/performed at this time.
