Observations/Finding
As requested, our AS Engerineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the site for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Contractor continued backfill and compaction for Lots #421, #422, #423 and the roadway.
Upon arrival, work was already in progress with the contractor placing 16 inch lifts.
The soils observed on this date did not appear to be placed in accordance with project drawings and specifications as lifts were placed in amounts too large.
The contractor was notified about reducing lift thicknesses to approximately 12 inches. Soils were brought in by dump truck and spread using a Komatsu 51 pxi at a depth of about 14 feet below finished grade. Compaction was performed using a caterpillar 815 F.
Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759).
Density test results indicate that the compacted material met the project specification of 90% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698).
Density testing result:
P-01 Moisture-Density Relationship (proctor) = 100.4 pcf @ 18.6%
