Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and material submittals. The following observations were made on site during the day:

  • Excavation and backfilling activities were carried out throughout the day. Excavation was performed within the site from cut areas, and additional fill material was imported from an external source using multiple dump trucks.

  • Excavation was performed using a CAT 349E excavator, and internal hauling was carried out using 845C all-road trucks.

  • The imported and excavated material was spread using a Komatsu 61Pxi bulldozer, and compaction was completed with a sheepsfoot roller.

  • Backfilling occurred in Lots 29–31 and Lots 103–110:

    • Lots 29–31 were backfilled up to subgrade elevation.

    • Lots 103–110 were backfilled to approximately 6 to 7 feet below subgrade.

  • Nuclear gauge compaction tests were performed as follows:

    • Lot 29 achieved 98% compaction, meeting project requirements (Pass).

    • Lots 30 and 31 recorded 89% and 91% compaction, respectively, which do not meet the required specifications (Fail). The foreman was promptly notified, and rework has been scheduled. Retesting will be conducted in the coming days.

    • Lots 103–110 showed compaction values ranging from 98% to 100%, indicating that all tests have passed.

  • Water removal was performed from a temporary pond on site. The area was then reinforced with rocks and backfilled with dirt.

  • Additionally, the grading contractor placed wet topsoil in the backyard areas of Lots 103–110, in accordance with the instructions issued by the grading company’s manager.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
