Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes and material submittals. The following observations were observed on the site this day.
Ongoing Activities:

Undercutting of unsuitable soils (as instructed by ASEC for a 4-inch undercut on July 16, 2025) and backfilling with Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) along Shelly Boulevard continued.

Curb removal and placement of GAB in the excavated section of the deceleration lane on the west side.
Observations and Recommendations:
The writer visually inspected all four locations where a 4-inch undercut was performed as per the report dated July 16, 2025. The construction contractor subsequently placed GAB in the undercut areas.
The subgrade beneath the curb of the deceleration lane was tested using a probe rod. Most of the subgrade was found to be firm, except for an approximate 10-to-15-foot section that appeared soft. This soft area was undercut to a depth of 4 inches and backfilled with GAB accordingly.
