Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the next working day, construction activities continued at Pond 1, non-woven geotextile fabric was placed along the bottom and sides of the excavation, following fabric placement, a gravel bedding layer was installed and leveled.
The crew then installed corrugated metal pipes (CMP) in alignment with the existing detention system. Pipe installation at Pond 1 progressed to an approximate total length of 140 lineal feet. After installation, gravel was placed around and between the pipes. The open ends of the detention pipes were closed and wrapped with geotextile fabric to prevent soil intrusion and to protect the system prior to final backfilling.
At Pond 3, work focused on backfilling operations following completion of the detention system. Suitable fill material was placed around the pipes in controlled lifts of approximately 6 to 8 inches. Each lift was compacted using a sheep-foot roller, and backfilling continued to an approximate height of 3 feet on sides of the pipe system. Compaction was observed to be uniform, and the fill was compacted thoroughly to achieve the required density.
At Pond 2, backfilling activities were initiated. Fill material was placed to an approximate height of 1 foot in a single lift and compacted. However, compaction did not meet the required density, and the area failed compaction requirements. As a result, backfilling operations at Pond 2 were temporarily stopped pending corrective measures.
Following pond-related activities, the crew shifted operations at foundation wall to sd2-p 912. Fill material was placed to restore grades and compacted in two controlled lifts, each approximately 6 to 8 inches thick. Compaction was performed using compaction equipment, and the area was graded.
