Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was onsite to observe the curbing contractor begin pouring curbing (type 2) for the roadway to the cul-de-sac at Seven Hills phase 13 until the curbing machine broke down and the pour ended. The contractor continued pouring sidewalk on Seven Hills Boulevard.

The writer also assisted in observing concrete placement at the bridge cart path and raised island and north side curbing. Also observed installation of tension rods attached to the dead man footing wall.

Observed the paving contractor (NWGP) continue subgrade preparation at Naturewalk Parkway at the end of Phase 1. The subgrade was clipped an extra -4″ to remove saturated subgrade soils as recommended. The contractor placed additional base stone that was clipped from an existing subbase previous placed. Also performed additional density checks on in-place binder asphalt mix at Naturewalk Parkway at the intersection to Phase 1B and 1B roadway. The writer set up a meeting with NWGP asphalt group to discuss discrepancies at previous placed asphalt binder placement. Several density check readings were below the required compaction effort of 92% based on an estimated theoretical value of 154.0.

No actual value was provided. Readings were measured at 142.5,140.6.151.2,144.8,137.4,133.2,130.4,127.7 and 141.6.

The writer observed the grading contractor continue hammering residual rock at the building lots.
