Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Upon arrival at the Mt. Moriah side of the bridge construction, soil was being placed using a Caterpillar 326 excavator and a skid steer. A remote-controlled trench packer was used adjacent to the dead-man wall to minimize the potential for wall disturbance, while a Bomag 145PDH ride-on vibratory sheep-foot compactor was used to compact the remaining fill.
The first lift, measuring approximately 12 inches in thickness, was completed at an elevation approximately 5 feet below the top of the retaining wall. A 3/8-inch probe rod was used to evaluate the lift, with an average probe depth of approximately 2 inches observed.
A second lift, also approximately 12 inches thick, was placed at an elevation approximately 4 feet below the top of the dead-man wall. Compaction of this lift had not been completed at the time the technician departed the site.
Additional soil was placed behind the dead-man wall (see photo). Soil was also placed beneath the bridge; however, compaction of this material had not been performed while the technician was on site.
No further observations were made.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
